Sensei Seigo Okamoto was the leading student of Kodo Horikawa of Kitami, Hokkaido of the Kodokai.
He was born in 1925 in Yubari City, Hokkaido, in Japan and began his aiki studies with Master Kodo Horikawa in 1963. In 1974, Okamoto received his 7th dan rank and was promoted to shihan master instructor level in 1978.
In 1977 Okamoto moved to Tokyo and found Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu Roppokai after separating from the Kodokai.
The technical syllabus of the Roppokai is very different from the traditional Daito-Ryu techniques of Sokaku Takeda. Seigo Okamoto’s art focused on quickly executed aiki techniques that seized the attackers power and took their balance away, using the absolute minimum body movement.
Seigo Okamoto is the author of two books and two videos on Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu and travels regularly to Denmark and Italy to give seminars.
