Peter Grootenhuis possesses one of the most brilliant scientific minds in the world, but his body is fighting a losing battle to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, (A.L.S.) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Teaching from his wheelchair, Grootenhuis is an inspiration to everyone at Pacific Martial Arts in San Diego and to anyone else in the world who has the honor of meeting and spending time with him. His message, “Quitting Is Not An Option” is one of many legacies he will leave in his wake.
Sadly, Peter Grootenhuis passed away in September 2019 to complications from ALS. He was a loving husband, father, mentor, and friend to many, and his wisdom and accompanying dry sense of humor colored the lives of those privileged to know him. He will be missed by all and leaves many a broken heart, but even more he leaves us with a great thankfulness for his strength as a martial arts instructor and as a man. RIP Sensei Peter Grootenhuis
Peter Grootenhuis, Ph.D. is Awarded the 2018 IUPAC-Richter Prize
