Banshay is a term for martial arts of Myanmar (formerly Burma, which borders India, China and Thailand). Banshay, is a general term that focuses on weapon use. Both Indian and Chinese sources influenced the development of weapons systems. The sword, staff and spear are the major weapons used in this art. The goal of sword use is to disarm the opponent. Many times, sword fights are fought with the sword sheathed, because only under extreme conditions will a Burmese swordsman unsheathe his or her sword.
