YOUNG INSTRUCTOR’S TRAINING CAMP
Friday, August 1 through Friday, August 8, 2008
Tom Callos' Blog
Join us fo a 7-Day Traveling Summer Camp in California for Martial Arts Assistants and Teachers Ages 14 to 20! Hosted and Chaperoned by Master Teacher, Tom Callos.
H ERE'S THE PROGRAM IN A NUTSHELL:
Tom Callos trains and chaperones 30 young adult teachers/assistants for a 7-day summer camp / road trip in Northern California in August 2008!
COACHING PRIOR TO THE EVENT BEGINS IMMEDIATELY!
The team teaches, trains, and gets coaching with Tom while at the same time training and learning about teaching from teachers that he takes them to visit.
The team bases out of The Dojo (Tom's School between Lake Tahoe and Sacramento, CA) and then takes road trips to train with Dave Kovar, World BJJ Champ Cassio Werneck, Sword Master Shihan Nishiuchi, San Francisco’s Fairtex Muay Thai, Ernie Reyes’ West Coast Martial Arts, and other top schools in Northern California.
The team also gets to visit San Francisco, hike, swim, and take a professionally guided raft trip along the beautiful south fork of the American River.
Because the event is in August of 2008, tuition can be broken down into monthly payments ($360 down, $131 a month if you enroll now -- affordable for students, parents, and/or school owners), all meals will be catered/included for the price of tuition, and students sleep on the mat (old school) under the watchful eye of Tom Callos and an adult chaperone team.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE SUMMER CAMP ARE:
1. To make each camper a better, more cognizant and compassionate teacher (each camper will receive an in-depth analysis of their strengths --and a road map to improve his or her teaching).
2. To create amazing memories training under amazing teachers, learning life-lessons, and forming friendships that will last well beyond the event.
3. To inspire each camper to train harder and smarter, to pursue teaching from the most professional perspective, and to understand the teacher's role in the effective management of a professional martial arts school. Most importantly, the summer camp is designed to teach each camper how to take their martial arts out of the school and into the world!
4. To tie in nutrition, community activism, attitude, lifestyle, sustainable living, leadership skills, the power of positive people, and environmental self-defense into the fabric of each camper's viewpoint on the martial arts.
5. To have a year's worth of fun in just 7 days in a whirlwind team-building martial arts adventure and vision-quest!
HERE'S WHERE WE BEGIN:
For 7 Days, Friday, August 1 through Friday, August 8, 2008, Master Teacher Tom Callos will play chaperon and host to 30 young martial arts instructors from everywhere as they road-trip through Northern California visiting and training with some of the best Master Teachers in the nation.
These lucky teenagers will meet, visit, and train with master teachers and martial arts legends, they'll sight-see through California's Bay Area, the Sacramento Valley, and the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills and they'll be personally coached in teaching technologies by veteran teachers Tom Callos and Dave Kovar.
In addition, Tom Callos will introduce the summer campers to classes taught by World Champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stylist Cassio Werneck, Sword Master Shihan Nishiuchi, West Coast Action Team Members, Fairtex Muay Thai, National Capoeira Champion Joel Beal, and others.
BY THE WAY:
Early enrollment is suggested (phone Tom Callos at 530-903-0286), as spaces for the event will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pay a 20% non-refundable deposit and pay the balance off monthly until the event. No refunds on any tuition, but membership may be transferred if necessary.
HERE IS A LETTER ABOUT THE TRIP FROM TOM CALLOS:
Dear Teachers, Parents, and Kids,
This event was born in the Ultimate Black Belt Test, as three times a year the teams come together for special events --and those events have been absolutely spectacular. So, in the spirit of nurturing the instructors of tomorrow . . . With the idea of creating an event that attendees will carry with them for the rest of their lives . . . And to offer a bunch of "karate kids" (who likely live and breath martial arts as much as the masters they're going to be training with) a chance to do what I myself would have liked to do when I was a kid . . .
I'm organizing this, the first summer camp of its kind in the martial arts community.
In the months preceding the event, I will coach everyone in journal-writing and film making, as we will be making a YouTube-based film about this project entitled "7 Days with the Masters."
I have teamed with MEMBER SOLUTIONS to allow you to budget the tuition into monthly payments - and prior to the event I am going to be personally working with the campers via e-mail, film, and phone conferences to make them better teachers, better staff members, and if at all possible, better people.
Campers will learn dozens and dozens of new techniques, teaching ideas, and self-defense strategies, meet some martial arts stars - AND they'll have FUN. We'll hike, climb, swim, train, and learn, learn, learn! For more information and to sign-up, call me at 530-903-0286! Tom Callos
